All Local Families are Invited to Family Resource Night March 3, 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Oak Harbor Intermediate School

Prevention, education, and community resources will be provided by local organizations in collaboration with student assistance professionals from Oak Harbor High School, North Whidbey Middle School, Oak Harbor Intermediate School, and the Oak Harbor Youth Coalition.

Oak Harbor Public Schools partners with NWESD 189 to provide prevention and intervention programs at these schools to increase knowledge and awareness of the nature and extent of alcohol and other drug use, abuse, and addiction. All community members are welcome to attend this event to learn more.

Light refreshments will be available. Childcare and activities for children ages 3-10 will be provided by Key Club.

Please RSVP to Natalie Lashley at nlashley@ohsd.net.

Impact Aid Champions

Crescent Harbor, Hillcrest Elementary, Oak Harbor Elementary staff, and Impact Aid Coordinator and Human Resources Specialist, Megan Kinghorn, were recognized at this week's school board meeting as “Impact Aid Champions.”

Impact Aid is the Federal Government's reimbursement to school districts for the presence of non-taxable Federal property, such as NAS Whidbey Island. These dollars are not automatic; they are determined directly by the number of completed forms we receive. Since nearly half of OHPS students qualify, the return of every single form directly impacts the resources our schools receive.

Also recognized at Monday's school board meeting were high school staff and students.

  • Teacher Erica Schulle, who recently received the Northwest Region Advisor of the Year Award
  • Counselor and Chair of OHHS' Counseling Department, Christy Kellison who has helped students with their college and career goals.
  • Teacher Kyle Wendling who works with students with special needs, AVID students, and Northwest ESD job site partnership programs
  • Student Assistance Professional Monique Olvera who has made meaningful connections with students and staff through prevention education.
  • Students Corbin Hampton and Dovie Herron were recognized for exemplifying Oak Harbor Public School's core values of academic excellence, inclusion and belonging, and collaboration. Corbin is the student safety chief at OHHS and recently volunteered his time to secure bleed kits for our CTE classes. Dovie made a deep impression through her advocacy for other students through clubs and student activities.

Exploring fields like photography, filmmaking, graphic design, and commercial art, OHHS students got the rare chance to sit down face-to-face with industry professionals on Feb. 19 for a visual communications career event.
